CBMR officially opens registrations for RockBowl 2026, the rock mechanics question-and-answer competition that will take place on August 26 and 27, 2026, at the Centro Internacional de Convenções do Brasil (CICB), in Brasília, Brazil, during the X LARMS and COBRAMSEG 2026.

What is RockBowl?

RockBowl is a question-and-answer game in which student teams are challenged to answer technical and non-technical questions on Rock Mechanics, in a direct knockout format.

Who can participate?

The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students (MSc and PhD) from any university, up to 35 years of age, who are active members of CBMR/ABMS. Non-Brazilian students must be active members of their respective national rock mechanics committee or an ISRM-affiliated society. Participation is free of charge, and selected teams will have their event registration and accommodation during the congress covered.

How to participate?

Form a team of 2 to 3 participants from the same university, appoint a professor tutor, and complete the registration through the form available on the CBMR website by June 5, 2026. Each team must also submit ten rock mechanics questions, following the template available in the registration materials.

Awards

Members of the winning team will receive a tablet, a champion's certificate, and a first-place medal, as well as a trophy for the team. Members of the runner-up team will receive a second-place medal. The participant with the best individual performance in the competition will be awarded a trip to Slope Stability 2026, to be held from October 26 to 29, 2026, in Peru, including economy-class airfare, event registration, and accommodation.
