Milorad Jovanovski is a confirmed speaker at LARMS 2026

Professor Milorad Jovanovski is one of the confirmed speakers at LARMS 2026. He is a Professor of Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology at the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia, and ISRM Vice-President At Large (2023–2027).

With more than 210 scientific publications and three technical books, Professor Jovanovski has a distinguished record in rock slope engineering, rock mass characterisation and classification, laboratory and in-situ testing, tunnelling, large dams, and environmental geotechnics. He is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the upcoming ISRM regional conference EUROCK 2026, to be held in Skopje in September 2026.

His lecture, titled "Stability Challenges in Rock Slope Engineering for Gypsum Rock Masses in Specific Environment", will address the stability challenges of rock slopes in gypsum and anhydrite rock masses — materials of relatively rare occurrence in nature, with specific mechanical properties, high deformability, and susceptibility to dissolution by surface and groundwater. The case study presented is based on high cut slopes along a regional road near the Macedonian town of Debar, in a complex geological environment that includes an artificial lake at the toe of the slopes, active faulting, seismicity, and water interactions. Results cover failure mechanisms, protection measures, and rockfall trajectory analyses.

LARMS 2026 will be held from August 25 to 28, 2026, in Brasília, Brazil, alongside the XXII Cobramseg, under the theme "Rock Mechanics for a Sustainable Future: Innovation in Mining, Energy and Infrastructure". The event is organised by CBMR, in partnership with ABMS and the ISRM National Group of Brazil.
