Luis Lamas to present lecture on the new generation of the Geotechnical Eurocode at LARMS 2026
Professor Luis Lamas, Principal Researcher and Head of the Rock Mechanics and Modelling Unit at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) in Lisbon, Portugal, is one of the confirmed speakers at LARMS 2026. His lecture, titled "The Second Generation of the Geotechnical Eurocode – Main Aspects and Inclusion of Rock Engineering", will address the key aspects of the second generation of the Geotechnical Eurocode (Eurocode 7) and its integration with rock engineering.
The presentation will describe the structure of Eurocode 7 and its interaction with the main Eurocode (EN 1990), highlighting the four fundamental steps of the design process: reliability management, ground modelling, design verification, and implementation of design. The lecture will also cover the geotechnical structures addressed by Eurocode 7, with emphasis on those relevant to rock engineering, and will summarise the main rock-related provisions, with selected examples of application.
LARMS 2026 will be held from August 25 to 28, 2026, in Brasília, Brazil, alongside the XXII Cobramseg, under the theme "Rock Mechanics for a Sustainable Future: Innovation in Mining, Energy and Infrastructure". The event is organised by CBMR, in partnership with ABMS and the ISRM National Group of Brazil.
